Research Invite

OZ Downov syndróm (a civic association based in Slovakia that supports individuals with Down syndrome and their families) is inviting you to take part in an international survey project focusing on how families with a child with Down syndrome perceive and experience otherness in their everyday lives.

The project aims to explore how these perceptions are shaped within families as well as by broader social contexts. While the study originates in Slovakia, they intend to bring together perspectives from different cultural and national settings. By placing these experiences side by side, they hope to gain a more nuanced understanding of how inclusion, acceptance, and identity are navigated in diverse environments.

The main respondents they’re hoping to reach are families of children with Down syndrome – mothers, fathers, or other close relatives. If a person with Down syndrome would like to respond for themselves, they absolutely welcome that as well.

Participation is voluntary and anonymous, in line with ethical research standards. The survey is designed to be short, accessible, and respectful, and no identifying data will be collected. The responses will form the basis of a creative publication (zine/brochure), ensuring that the findings are not only shared within academic or NGO circles but also returned to families and communities in a more engaging format.
