Dr Hunter is a Consultant in Paediatric and Fetal Cardiology at the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC), Glasgow. Lindsey has led the national fetal cardiology service in Scotland for over the last 11 years and continues to be passionate about fetal & paediatric cardiac echo teaching.

Dr Herrieven is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Paediatric Emergency Medicine, working at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. She has a special interest in access for healthcare for people with a learning disability and autistic people. She works with DSMIG and the DSA answering health queries raised by professionals and families regarding people with Down syndrome.

Davina Richardson is a Children’s Specialist Nurse, who has been working at Bladder & Bowel UK, a national charity under the umbrella of Disabled Living, for more than six years. Davina set up and then ran a community children’s continence service in the NHS for over 10 years. This provided assessment and treatment for children with constipation., soiling, day and night time wetting and delayed toilet training.

Dr Hamza has experience in developmental assessment of children with developmental delay and assessing and diagnosing autism spectrum disorder. Over the past few years Dr Hamza has specialised in the management of children with Down Syndrome, she is currently leading the service for children with Down Syndrome in Glasgow, to ensure national guidelines are implemented and ensure good health for these children.

The workshop will include at least 30 seasonal signs as well as activities, songs and stories that can be used in your setting. Each participant will receive printable resources to use during and after the workshop.
Participants on the last seasonal workshop said –
“I learned a lot and it was really practical which was what I wanted.
I learned a lot of signs, where to access UK Makaton videos and resources and how to incorporate Makaton into a song.”
This practical, interactive workshop will provide you with seasonal signs, songs and activities to use straight away in the classroom. Workshop handouts and activities will be emailed to participants after the workshop. Previous attendees have found this workshop particularly useful in bringing Christmas songs and stories to life for all their learners, while being more inclusive for those with communication differences. Delivered by DSS Makaton Tutor, Katy Lironi, this is a popular workshop with nursery and primary school teachers and support staff, as well as some working with secondary pupils at an earlier communication stage.
This module is aimed at teachers and support staff to support with understanding and positively supporting communication behaviour of children and young people with Down’s syndrome.
