Do you want to set up a staff ‘charity day’ or afternoon in support of Down’s Syndrome Scotland?

There are lots of different ways that you can fundraise at work including organising a bake sale, afternoon tea, bingo, auction – the list is endless! We have a number of campaigns throughout the year that you can take part in.

Every year we celebrate World Down’s Syndrome day on the 21st March. This is a great opportunity to raise some awareness about Down’s syndrome whilst also having fun and raising some money to support our vital work.

Taking part is simple, encourage your staff to come in wearing odd socks – you can add to the fun by setting up some games like ‘Guess how many socks’ or arrange a fun scratch card.

Down’s syndrome affects the chromosomes in your body. Most people have 26 chromosomes – 23 from each parent. Babies born with Down’s syndrome have an extra full or partial chromosome 21.

Chromosomes look a little like socks and that is why we encourage people to wear odd socks to raise awareness of Down’s syndrome.

Fundraise for us and include the number 21! For example run 21 miles over 21 days or complete 21 press ups every day and so on.

The number 21 is of great significance to the Down’s syndrome community, as people with Down’s syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21, so lets celebrate it!

You can take part in 21 in 21 in March in the lead up to World Down’s Syndrome Day on the 21st or at any other time to suit you!

Many companies offer ‘matched funding’ so always ask your employee if they are able to match your donations meaning you are donating more to us!

Once you have completed your fundraising you can invite us into your office and we can present the money raised via one of our massive cheques – a perfect opportunity to hear more about us and how your donation will help. You can also take some photos which you can use on your social media accounts to promote the excellent charitable work that you and your company have done. Spread the word!

Ensure you tag us in any social media posts @Down’s Syndrome Scotland and use hashtags such as #downsyndrome #inclusion #diversity #raisingawareness
