Supporting Healthy Brain Ageing in Down’s Syndrome
An invitation to join the ABC-DS Study
Last week, Down’s Syndrome Scotland and the Cambridge Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Group (CIDDRG) partnered to deliver two fantastic webinars on Healthy Ageing in Down’s Syndrome. Led by Dr. Shahid Zaman (Consultant Clinical Psychiatrist & Associate Professor, University of Cambridge) and Natasha Duggan (Research Assistant & Outreach Coordinator), we explored:
- Healthy lifestyle habits that support brain health as people with Down’s syndrome get older
- The link between Down’s syndrome and dementia
- How research is helping to detect the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease in individuals with Down’s syndrome
The key focus of Shahid’s research team is tracking the early markers of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in people with Down’s syndrome. Identifying these changes as early as possible is crucial for developing better interventions and ensuring that individuals can live longer, healthier lives.
